My name is Sumto. I have met the enemies of the city and prevailed against them, admittedly as much by luck as judgement. I could not have garnered the little success I can boast had I been alone there is Sapphire, an assassin in the employ of my father; Meran, my former slave; and there is Jocasta, a sorceress of unexpected skill and strength. They all seem to care about me more than I probably deserve.
Still, the influence of the necromancers over the barbarians of the north is shattered and one of their most powerful members dead. There are armies of the city in the north and the enemy has been pacified. All is well, and Sumto assumes he has an easy time ahead of him... until that suddenly seems very unlikely indeed.

I liked the book, but it's damn annoying. The characters are interesting and likeable, but frustrating too. I don't get this penchant for self-loathing, like it's a mandatory characteristic in every protagonist. For Sumto to be so intelligent and well, retarded at the same time is terribly annoying. I do like the world and don't really mind all the political babble, but after reading reviews for the third installment, which seem like more of the same, I think I'll wait for the fourth addition and see what people have to say before continuing on this journey. If you liked the first one I would definitely recommend this one and it is an entertaining read, I'm just a bit ambivalent about weather or not to continue the series if it continues in this vein.Product details

The Key To The Grave The Price Of Freedom Book 2 eBook Chris Northern Reviews
An entertaining series, and worth reading, but definitely written from a 'white guy waxes poetic about beliefs based on a lifetime of privilege' standpoint.
I was eagerly anticipating this book, as I was very fond of the first installment.
And I was even looking forward to more up until *just* about the end.
In essence, this book was very well succeeding in the same style as previous, and the adventures were going very well.
The supporting characters were continuing to become deeper and more clear. The main character was continuing to grow on me as a personality.
Rating logic
1) I'm not going to read further books
2) It wasn't a dull, uninteresting, or boring book
3) It wouldn't surprise me if other people liked the book (because they don't mind the issues that sink it for me)
---- That defines 3-stars for me.
In order to examine why this book fell flat on its face for me, I have to divulge spoilers (which have minimal impact on the plot itself), so I will provide obligatory spoiler warnings here
------- SPOILER ALERT ***********************
Towards the end the main villain tells us that he has rap ed Jocasta (one of our very favorite characters from both books whom we've grown to adore). Furthermore he tells us that he's tampering with the memories of the characters to conceal this fact. What the heck? (Not to mention, how does this fit into a first person narrative?)
Now don't get me wrong, the author doesn't go into any detail that would be "extra-unbecoming", it's merely mentioned as "having been done".
Unless there's some way by which this is actually a mistake (like the villain had his memory tampered with...uhhh err.. yeah... ), there's really no point in my further reading this series.
I read for fun and entertainment.
I thought both of these books were quite well done, where the main character regularly succeeds and failed in extremely entertaining fashion. Heck, the main character is brutalized... but his grim determination brings him through where others might fail. This is well done... in fact it's *great* stuff.
But as I read this admission/gloat of rap e, all that was interesting in these books was just kind of sucked out.
Why am I reading this? Do I like tragedies? No, I don't like tragedies... There wasn't any of this in the first book, so it makes me extremely disappointed.
Great read!!
Sometimes it almost seems partisan, and the themes are a little overt, but the characters are very solid and so is the plot. It had an odd style, the overarching story line isn't visible at all. The main characters just ends up in it. I've gotten used to it and it's a good read. One character is kind of an invincible crutch, but that's more a more to the author, not a prospective reader
------Possible Spoilers-------
I gave the first book a favorable review and hoped that this book would continue to build Sumto's character but in the end I was in for a big let down. I am disappointed with this book, to me it seems very similar to the first book and things that were forgivable in the first one were not forgivable in the second one.
The biggest issue I had was the anticlimactic ending of both books. The beginning of the book was good, Sumto appeared to be growing as a character and kept telling himself and the reader that he would not make the same mistakes as he did in the first book. He appears to be successful and works hard to build a new group of followers to help him in the North. Sound familiar? Towards the end of the book he makes a bad judgement which costs him dearly. Sound familiar? Due to the bad judgement he gets captured and beaten. Sound familiar? We have everything Sumto worked hard for the entire 2/3d of the book, literally flushed down the toilet. Sound familiar? All of the followers he had were either killed, maimed, or tortured in the end. Sound familiar, yeah I thought so too. It was also very confusing right at the exact spot where the part book took a turn for the worse; I had to read the passage 3 times because I thought I'd somehow skipped a couple of pages. I was basically like Sumto in asking "What the heck happened?"
Reading the ending of the book was just damn depressing. In the first book everything Sumto did and struggled for had little outcome on what happened in the grand scheme of things, he also ended up with little to show for it. I was hoping the second book was going to be different but in the end he can't catch a break. Sumto continues to muse and think about great ideas but most of it never comes to fruition in either books. I decided to give this book a 2 star rating, because I read both books back to back and felt cheated. I will probably not read the next book because it'll probably be more of the same.
This is just my personal review and you may or may not agree but happy reading to all! Feel free to comment.
So I thought this book was pretty awesome. It started out a hair slow, but just stick with it. With in 20 pages it picks right up and starts getting good. I like the route the author has taken for the main character. Instead of being this invincible guy that clicks his fingers and conquers the world he is more realistic. He makes mistakes and learns from them. He doesn't always win, in fact he usually loses, but in the process gets the stronger for it. I purchased this as well as the sequel and will get the last book in the series as well when it comes out.
I liked the book, but it's damn annoying. The characters are interesting and likeable, but frustrating too.
